The Graduate Admission Committee for Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics at Caltech encourages all qualified applicants to submit a full application.
The Mechanical Engineering Faculty now requires that GRE scores be submitted with each application. Completed Applications are due no later than January 15th. Only fully completed applications, with all requested supporting materials, received prior to the application deadline will receive full consideration.
No information will be available regarding the possibility of admission until the committee has reviewed each applicant's complete application, and rendered a decision. At that time, the applicant will be contacted by the Caltech Graduate Office directly.
All inquiries or other communications concerning an application or brochure should be directed to either the Caltech Graduate Office, or the Option Office for Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics at:
Admission will be granted only to a limited number of students of
superior ability, and application should be made as early as possible.
In a typical year, offers of admission are made to approximately 30 of the
best students out of 500 applications.
No application fee is required at this time.
Before completing an application, each potential applicant should consider the likelihood of being admitted to graduate study at Caltech. Each applicant is competing with the best students in the world for an extremely limited number of available offers of admission. Most students who are admitted to Caltech rank in the top 5% of their undergraduate class, have a grade point average greater than 3.5, and have high GRE test scores as shown in the chart below.
